Drijvende Bloemenmarkt

Floating Flower Market

The Floating Flower Market, or Bloemenmarkt, is the only floating flower market in the world. It's on the Singel Canal in Amsterdam. The Singel Canal served as the city's moat for many years until Amsterdam expanded beyond the limits of the moat.
Each of the stalls of the fifteen florists located in the Floating Flower Market sits on a pontoon in the canal, and you can't even tell that the market is floating! The very first floating market was held in 1862, and today, if you're looking for any kind of flower, the Floating Flower Market is the place to find it. You'll even find some incredible hybrid varieties that you've never seen before. The market also sells a number of seeds and flower bulbs, which are two of the top exports in the Netherlands. You can even pay to ship them home, although that does tend to get a bit pricey. Just remember that you usually can't take bulbs or live plants on an airplane when you're ready to fly home.
In addition to everything having to do with flowers, you can also find a number Dutch souvenirs, especially in the stalls across from the market. The souvenir shops can seem to overshadow the Floating Flower Market these days, though.
The flower market is open Monday through Friday from nine until six and Saturday from nine until five. It's closed on Sunday. You don't even have to buy anything to enjoy the market's beautiful splendor. It's a great place to walk and enjoy nature among the bustling of the rest of the city.

Sint Maarten and the City of Philipsburg

The Island of Sint Maarten is divided into the French and Dutch sides, and it's home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the capital city of Philipsburg governs the Dutch half of the island. Travelers who are going to Sint Maarten should definitely travel by air, but for those who are set on going by cruise ship, a trip to the airport is a must. Princess Juliana International Airport is known worldwide for the breathtaking, close-quarters view of aircraft coming in for a landing. Many tourists go to the airport just to see this incredible panorama.
Aside from the beautiful beaches, shopping is one of the biggest tourist activities on the island because of all the duty-free shopping that's available there, especially along the commercial district inside of Philipsburg. In addition to shopping, there are numerous art galleries and casinos there to be enjoyed. Tourists who are looking for the nude beaches in St. Maarten will prefer to stick to the French side instead.
Another must-do activity for tourists visiting St. Maarten is the 12 Metre Challenge, which gives you just a taste of what it's like to work as a crew member for one of the yachts in the America's Cup. Fort Amsterdam is also a must-see destination on the island. The historical significance of the fort dates all the way back to 1631 when it was built. The Spanish occupied it for many years, but later it returned to the hands of the Dutch.

Beautiful Beaches and More in The Hague

Although Amsterdam is technically the capital of the Netherlands, The Hague is actually home to the country\'s government. There is much to do and see throughout the city, and it hosts numerous festivals all throughout the year. Everything from sand sculptures, to photography, and more topics are celebrated on various days in the city.
If you want to hit the waves, The Hague is also a great place to go surfing. Scheveningen Surfers Village is an unusual area that was created specifically for surfers. You can stay overnight on the beach in sea containers if you wish, camp there, and enjoy the waves at any hour of the day or night. The area is also home to a very popular beach resort where you can enjoy sailing, fishing, diving, and kite surfing. If you\'re seeking a quieter beach, check out Kijkduin, which provides more hiking opportunities and horseback riding on the dunes.
Kids will enjoy SEA LIFE Scheveningen, which is home to more than forty aquariums. A large part of the Sea Life Center is actually tropical jungle with incredible waterfalls and wildlife you normally find in the Amazon River region in South America. Another great destination for families is Madurodam, which recreates all of the Netherlands in miniature. The park changes each year with new themes being created in the area.
The Queen of the Netherlands also resides in The Hague, so you don\'t want to miss the Palace Garden, which is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Rotterdam - De wereldstad

Rotterdam - The City of the World

The experiences on offer in the City of Rotterdam are about as diverse as you can imagine. The major European port is home to some of the most impressive architecture in the world, as well as plenty of art and entertainment for people of all ages.
You should definitely take the time to check out the well-known Cube Houses, which are some innovative houses that are based on the idea \"living as an urban roof.\" The Cube Houses are tilted at a forty-five degree angle and sit on a pylon that\'s in the shape of a hexagon. Just walking past them is an experience in itself, although there is one set up as a museum that you can actually go into.
Rotterdam also holds other incredible pieces of architecture, including the Maastoren, which is the tallest building in the Netherlands. The New Luxor Theatre, St. Laurence Church, and the Van Nelle factor complex are also important destinations of note.
In addition to architecture, you might want to take in one of the city\'s numerous art galleries, concerts, or other shows. Some world-renowned celebrities put on shows in Rotterdam, and you can often catch the Scapino Ballet there. Catch a play at the RO Theatre or enjoy cabaret at Theater Zuidplein. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the culture that can be experienced at the World Museum.
You\'ll also find plenty of adventure in Rotterdam, whether you want to enjoy the city zoo or go out into the water by taking the Spido harbor tour. If you really want a water adventure, check out the Splashtours amphibious bus, which takes you under the sea without you even getting wet.

Amsterdam - Een grachtenstad

Amsterdam - A City of Canals

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands, although technically it is not where the government is seated because The Hague holds Parliament and other major government offices. The city is full of beautiful canals and plenty of sights to see. If you love to sightsee by bicycle, then Amsterdam is the perfect place for you. One of the first things you see when you go to Central Station is a massive, multi-story parking garage for bicycles. The city is also home to book and art markets every week. There are even several businesses that offer bike tours of the city.
The city is also home to numerous historical places, like the Anne Frank House, the Rembrandt House, and the Van Gogh Museum. If museums don\'t pique your interest, then there are also many other attractions, like the Artis Zoo and also Madame Tussaud\'s Wax Museum, which is full of wax figures of some of the world\'s most popular celebrities. You can also see the biggest diamonds in the world at Gassan Diamonds, which has been crafting and polishing diamonds since 1879. The business offers a complete tour, during which you can learn the fine art of diamond polishing! Amsterdam is also very well known for its many canals, and one of the most wonderful ways to enjoy the city is on one of the many cruises that are offered.
Amsterdam is also known as a very free spirited city that allows pot smoking and prostitution in its well-known Red Light District. However, if you choose not to go into the Red Light District, this sort of lifestyle is largely hidden from view.
