Gina:The Dutch like to go to the movies from time to time. Cinemas and arthouse cinemas have seen an increase of visitors in recent years, and it is expected that this trend will continue. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Haarlem, new cinemas have opened their doors. The annual International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam is the world's largest documentary film festival.

Gina:There are a lot of good shopping areas to be found in the Netherlands and a lot of Dutch people will spend their free weekend shopping. Stores are officially allowed to stay open until 10pm, but usually close at 7pm. Traditionally stores are open one evening during the week until 9pm. This can be, depending on the city, a Thursday or a Friday evening.

Gina:A lot of Dutch families own a caravan. During the summer holiday, such families will go on three week trips to a camping site in France, Spain or Italy. On national holidays they will take their caravan to one of the many camping areas that can be found in the Netherlands.

Gina:The popularity of bike riding in the Netherlands is probably due to the fact that it is a 'flat' country. Bike bridges, bike tunnels and bike paths are part of the infrastructure. Many Dutch people use bikes to commute to work or school, and when it's nice weather they go out and ride on one of the many cycling routes.
