Jessi: Top 25 Dutch Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 5: Do you speak Dutch? (In each lesson of this 25 part series, , you'll master a common question for Dutch learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll quickly conquer the mechanics of key phases by leaning each component. Then the repetition and the introduction of new vocabulary you expand your understanding of the question its answers and any slight variations. You also learn how to rapidly improve pronunciation and fluency by repeating the phrases and words aloud after hearing them.

The first word in the question do you speak Dutch is ?
Jacob: spreekt
Jessi: meaning speak in English.

Dutch people usually have at least basic knowledge when it comes to those languages. They will nevertheless be happy if you can speak to them in Dutch. The politely to respond as downplay your skill level by answering just a little you will impress not only with your Dutch ability but with your manners as well.

Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting the Netherlands you're getting to know a new acquaintance and he wants to know how good your Dutch's he asks you if you speak the language respond to the question that you speak a little.

Jessi: Now, imagine that you wish to brag and say that your Dutch is excellent. Respond to the question.
Jacob: Spreekt u Nederlands? (five seconds) Ja, ik spreek het uitstekend.
Jessi: Now, answer him that you don't really speak Dutch. Respond to the question.
Jacob: Spreekt u Nederlands? (five seconds) Ik spreek het niet echt.
Jessi: Imagine that Dutch comes naturally to you, you wish to tell him that your Dutch is very good. Response to the question.
Jacob: Spreekt u Nederlands? (five seconds) Ja, ik spreek het heel goed.
Jessi: You want to find out if your new acquaintance speaks Dutch, ask him the question...
